When it comes to dressing your altar and decorating, Fall is easily one of the most festive (and easiest) seasons to honor. And, if you celebrate the Wheel of the Year, there are three harvest holidays to honor: Lughnasadh, Mabon, and Samhain.
If you’re decorating for Fall in general, you can keep it simple and use a combination of orange, red, and brown leaves and candles and grab a mini pumpkin at Trader Joe’s and a few apples and call it a day. Or, you can go all out and decorate your home and altar to the nines with incense reminiscent of the season, a fall broom, and much more.
But, if you want to spruce up your altar for each holiday, there are colors and correspondences that go with each. Here’s a look at Mabon’s colors and correspondences as well as some Mabon altar ideas. Plus, some if you want to decorate your home as well.
Mabon Symbols and Correspondences
Mabon is the second harvest holiday. It is also known as the Fall Equinox and is the time of the year when there are equal amounts of light and dark. It occurs between September 21-24, depending on the year.
The following are Mabon’s symbols, colors, and concepts you can weave into your altar. The colors can inform the objects or tools, such as the candles. And, if you can, include at least one representation of each element. Water is typically represented by literal water (either consecrated or gathered under the Moon). Candles are for fire, incense for air, and stones are for earth.
