Fall has arrived, and Libra season is in full swing. The weather’s cooling, the leaves are changing, and the New Moon in Libra invites you to take a moment, soak in the changing of the season, find your balance (after all, we are at the fall equinox), and reconnect with beauty, love, and romance.

Libra is ruled by Venus and rooted in air energy. It asks: Where are you giving too much? Where are you holding back? How can you create more harmony in your life and relationships?

Whether you’re setting boundaries, calling in a new love, or sprucing up your space with fall decor, the New Moon in Libra brings a fresh start and, possibly, new connections.

New Moon in Libra Meaning

While the New Moon in Virgo helped you create systems, structure, and get your home decluttered, Libra reminds you that not everything can (or, frankly, should) be fixed. Try compassion first before jumping in with solutions.

The New Moon in Libra occurs near the Fall Equinox, also known as Mabon, the time when day and night are in balance. It’s a good time to focus on harmony and for restoring your own inner balance. Remember: As Above, So Below. As Within, So Without.

Libra energy supports new beginnings in love, friendships, contracts, creative collaborations, and any area of life where the themes that relate to Venus matter. If you’ve been navigating conflict or craving deeper intimacy, this New Moon invites those intentions in.

The New Moon in Libra occurs during a partial solar eclipse that on September 21, 2025, at 3:54 PM EDT. (Check out our New Moon Calendar to find when the next one is.)

Are New Moons Good for Manifestation?

Yes. New moons are one of the most most potent moon phases to set intentions and planting seeds, followed by the Waxing Moon which can ramp up the intensity. (Here’s our guide to working with the Waxing Moon.)

Also, in ancient Greek traditions, the new moon was celebrated through Noumenia, a time for cleansing, honoring the household gods, and setting intentions for the lunar month ahead. It remains an important ritual for modern Hellenists.

The New Moon in Libra is best for:

  • Calling in aligned relationships or partnerships
  • Restoring balance if you’ve been giving too much or are feeling burned out
  • Beautifying your home or altar space
  • Practicing rituals for love, attraction, or inner harmony
  • Signing contracts or beginning creative collaborations
  • Reconnecting with joy, art, and pleasure

New Moon in Libra Rituals

1. Love Candle Spell

Dress a pink or green candle with rose petals and a few drops of rose oil. (Not a lot unless you want to set off the fire alarm. Been there. Done that. Don’t recommend it.) Light it on the night of the New Moon and speak aloud what kind of relationship you desire.

2. Restoring Balance Ritual

Libra looks at all the ways we connect. Pull out your journal, and make two columns: “Nourishing” and “Draining.” Without editing yourself, list the people, actions, day-to-day things you do, or patterns you find yourself falling into that belong in each. Take time to reflect on the list and see what you can delegate to others from the draining column and how you can spend more time with those in the nourishing one.

3. Eight Word Love Spell

On a slip of paper, write a sentence about what your ideal love will feel like. It should be exactly eight words long (the number of balance). For example: “I attract safe, affectionate, healthy, and honest love.” Anoint it with rose oil, Fold it towards yourself four times, and keep it in a red charm bag with rose quartz and a spring of lavender or in your journal. (Here are more love spells and a guide on how to make a love spell jar.)

4. The No Ritual

Write down at least three places where you’ve said “yes” recently when you meant “no.” Under the New Moon, write a simple release for each: “I release the need to be agreeable at my own expense.” Then write one truth you’re ready to stand in and place this on your altar or in your journal as a reminder.

5. Relationship Rebalance

Choose one relationship where you’re ready to shift how you’ve been showing up. Write down a description of the version of yourself you’ve been playing (e.g., “the rescuer,” “the avoidant,” “the overfunctioner”) and write down the version you want to show up as. Take time to really visualize the latter. On the New Moon, safely burn the paper with the old version on it and let it go.
