Scorpio season is here, and with it comes what might be the most magnetic and intense New Moon of the year. Just like the Full Moon in Scorpio was no joke, the New Moon in Scorpio isn’t either.

After all, the leaves literally are falling and the veil is thin at this time of the year. It’s a time when shadow work comes to the surface. And, anything you avoided back in April of May is back to say, hi, let’s deal with this before we head into the new year.

Because, while other zodiac sign energy like to use the New Moon to vision board (hi Sagittarius), Scorpio invites you to go much deeper. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto and its Major Arcana tarot cards are the Death and the Tower. So, transformation, healing, psychic growth, power? Expect any Scorpio moon to ask you: What’s got to go so you can live the life you want? And, what are you ready to transform from the inside out?

Here is the spiritual meaning of the Scorpio New Moon as well as journal prompts for this Moon phase, and some New Moon in Scorpio rituals you can do to work with its energy.

New Moon in Scorpio Meaning

The Libra New Moon helped you find harmony with others. The New Moon in Scorpio couldn’t care less about that. It asks you to go inward and get honest with yourself. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, truth, and things some people consider taboo.

Remember, Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto, aka Hades. When the God of War and the God of the Underworld are your planetary daddies, you can’t expect its new moon to feel like a frolic through the flowers. Even if those two have the literal goddess of love and spring, respectively, as their partners.

Scorpio is also tied to the 8th House in astrology where profound change occurs. It’s the house of transformation, death, rebirth, money (Hades is also the god of wealth), secrets, and control.

But Scorpio isn’t just about descent. This sign moves in phases: from Scorpion (self-protective), to Eagle (piercing awareness), to Phoenix (transcendence and rebirth). That’s the energy this New Moon holds. A chance to shed the mask and rise up into your power.

Are New Moons Good for Manifestation?

Yes. New moons are one of the most potent moon phases of the lunar cycle for setting intentions and planting seeds. The energy builds after this during the Waxing Moon until it reaches full culmination at the Full Moon. (Here’s our guide to working with the Waxing Moon.)

In ancient Greek traditions, the New Moon was honored through Noumenia. This was a time for cleansing the home, making offerings to the household gods like Hestia, and setting intentions for the month ahead. It’s a tradition some modern pagans and Hellenic practitioners still honor today.

The New Moon in Scorpio is best for:

  • Deep personal or emotional transformation
  • Doing shadow work
  • Beginning an emotional healing journey
  • Reclaiming your power in areas where you’ve felt small
  • Starting a new phase of spiritual or psychic development

New Moon in Scorpio Rituals

1. Phoenix Letter Ritual

Scorpio rules transformation, and the New Moon is your blank page. So grab one literally, and write two letters. The first letter is to the version of yourself you’re ready to release. What patterns, fears, limiting beliefs, or identities no longer serve you?

Then, on a fresh page, write to the version you’re becoming. Anchor into the energy of rebirth. Who are you now? What do you claim? What are you ready to rise into?

When you’re finished, burn both letters safely in your fire-safe cauldron or dish. Let the smoke carry your old self away and provide space for the new one to rise.

2. Underworld Journey Meditation

During this New Moon, descend into your inner underworld. Visualize yourself walking down a long stone staircase or sinking into dark water. When you arrive at the bottom, meet your shadow, inner guide, or power animal. Ask them: What do I need to know to transform? What gift or truth am I meant to carry back?

When you’re ready, return slowly and record what you experienced. What did your shadow, guide, or power animal look like? What did they tell you? Don’t try to make logical sense of it right away. The feelings and images will unfold over the coming cycle or cycles.

3. Oil Anointing Ritual

This ritual is simple, sensual, and powerful. Mix a few drops of Scorpio-aligned oils like patchouli, myrrh, violet, or clove with a carrier oil. (Always patch test first and avoid anything you know your skin doesn’t like or that you’re allergic to.)

Stand in front of a mirror or your altar. Anoint the pulse points on your wrists and neck while speaking a new truth or commitment aloud that you want to step into this month.

4. Scorpio New Moon Tarot Spread

If you’re curious about what needs to transform or end so something new can begin, pull a few tarot cards with Scorpio-themed questions like those in the journal list above.

Or, try this technique from my friend The Tarot Professor: find the Death card in your deck. Then, look at the card that is directly before it and the one that follows it. The card that’s before it is the one you need to release. The one after it is what’s coming once you do.
